2019 PLAYER PROFILE: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

One of my favorite players in this year’s draft, LSU’s Andraez “Greedy” Williams. Williams has “it.” Whatever the “it factor” is, Williams has it – you could call it a modest abundance of confidence, I like to call it “swag.” And his confidence comes from his physical ability. He’s got rare quickness, agility and speed for his size. He’s not yet begun to reach his full potential.

2019 NFL DRAFT: ANDRAEZ “GREEDY” WILLIAMS | CB | LSU

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 185 | Class: rs Sophomore | 40 time: 4.48

Williams has the size NFL teams are looking for these days. It’s hard to cover a 6-5 receiver with a 5-8 DB. What makes Williams special is his athleticism for such a tall, lanky, corner. He can box out with his big frame. He’s got long-arms which he uses well at the line and when the ball is in the air. He has exceptional instincts and anticipation. He’s good at reading the receiver’s eyes, and turns for the ball at the right moment. He is experienced in both man-to-man and zone.

Williams has dropped a few balls that could’ve been picks. He plays with a desire to smother his opponent, and at times can give up a big play, miss on a slant, and has known to be grabby downfield. He’s only a redshirt sophomore, so there’s room for improvement, and that’s the exciting part.

In 2018, Williams was one of the top lockdown corners in the country. He was finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, thanks to his two interceptions and nine pass breakups. But his biggest contributions was not allowing receivers to get open at all — unfortunately, there’s not a game stat for that.

Has started all 23 games of his career with eight interceptions. He became the first LSU player since Craig Steltz in 2007 to lead the SEC in interceptions. Full name is Andraez but goes by Greedy. Grandmother nicknamed him Greedy when he was young. His older brother Rodarius is a starting cornerback for Oklahoma State. He grew up playing youth league football with Devin White.
