2019 NAIA National Football Player of the Year


The Rawlings-NAIA Football Player of the Year is an award sponsored by Rawlings. This prize is awarded annually to the best college football player in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.


Charles Salary, RB, Marian Knights

Marian (Ind.) running back Charles Salary has been named the 2019 NAIA National Football Player of the Year, announced Dec. 19 as part of the NAIA Champions banquet. The event was held at the Hobdy Assembly Center, the banquet site for the 64th annual NAIA Football National Championship. 

Salary was the star offensive threat for a Marian team that averaged nearly 420 yards per game. The senior from LaPorte, Ind., has run for 1,586 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 132.2 yards per game. This is his third straight year with over 1,000 yards rushing. For his career, Salary has run for 4,618 yards and 45 touchdowns with an impressive 6.9 yards-per-carry average. 

Salary led his team to the NAIA National Championship game vs Morningside (Iowa). Despite outscoring Morningside 24-19 in the second half, the Knights were unable to pull out the victory, losing a close contest 40-38. Salary had 26 carries for 111 yards in the game.
